Photographing a well-known personality like Sarper from 90 Day Fiancé is both a challenge and an incredible opportunity especially as a new photographer. With months in the making, I was invited by Sarper for his show at Punch Line in Sacramento which allowed me not only to photograph the show itself, but also to spend time with him beforehand. From the green room to the stage, the night offered a full look at both the performer and the person behind the spotlight.
Preparing for the Shoot

Capturing a live performance requires more than just showing up with a camera. The preparation phase involved understanding Sarper’s style, the venue’s layout, and the lighting conditions.
Researching Sarper’s persona: Sarper’s personality on 90 Day Fiancé is charismatic and engaging. Knowing his expressions and mannerisms helped anticipate moments worth capturing.
Scouting the Punch Line: This venue is known for its cozy atmosphere and close audience proximity. Viewing everything online beforehand allowed for planning the best camera angles and positions.
Equipment selection: Given the low-light environment, a fast lens with a wide aperture was essential. A camera body with good high ISO performance was chosen to avoid excessive noise.
This preparation ensured the shoot would be smooth and that the photos would reflect the energy of the event.
Behind the Scenes: The Green Room

Before the show, I was able to hang out and photograph Sarper in the green room. These moments were relaxed, candid, and full of personality. Sarper was incredibly cool, welcoming, and easy to chat with. Meeting Sarper for the first time felt effortless; we chatted like old friends, picking up the conversation as if it had never stopped.
Behind-the-scenes photos like these are some of my favorites. They show authenticity and give context to the performance that follows.
Capturing the Moment on Stage

Once Sarper took the stage, the energy in the room shifted instantly. Punch Lines stage and subtle lighting demanded quick reflexes and adaptability.
I relied entirely on available light to preserve the natural ambiance of the show. Close-up shots captured Sarper’s expressions and punch Lines, while wider frames showed his interaction with the audience. Comedy is all about timing, so anticipating reactions and shooting in bursts helped capture genuine moments as they unfolded.
The show itself was genuinely funny, which made documenting it even more enjoyable.
Overcoming Challenges

Like any live event, this shoot came with challenges. Low lighting required careful balancing of ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. Limited space meant staying creative with positioning, and Sarper’s spontaneous gestures meant always being ready for the unexpected.
Adapting in real time was essential and those challenges ultimately helped create images that feel honest, dynamic, and full of life.
Reflecting on the Experience

Photographing Sarper at Punch Line in Sacramento was a milestone moment for me as a new photographer. Experiences like this reaffirm why I pursue even photography and push me to grow both creatively and technically. Months of preparation, patience, and adaptability came together to create a body of work I’m genuinely proud of.
One of the biggest takeaways from this shoot was learning to adjust quickly to movement. Sarper’s performance was high-energy, with frequent and expressive motion, which taught me the importance of using a higher shutter speed to freeze those moments cleanly. Adapting on the fly made a noticeable difference and strengthened my confidence in live event settings.
Huge thanks to Sarper for the invitation and for being such a great person to work with. Opportunities like this continue to challenge me in the best way, and I’m excited to see where this photography journey leads next. 🙏
